Baby sleep in summer
Temperatures are currently rising and the nights are also getting warmer.
Unfortunately, babies can't tell when they're too warm. So what should you look for in your baby's sleepwear in the summer when temperatures are so high?
The optimal room temperature for baby sleep is between 16°C and 20°C. Maintaining this temperature is particularly difficult in summer. Therefore, the warmer the room temperature, the more airy the sleepwear should be.
In summer, a light sleeping bag is sufficient. For temperatures below 20°C, it should be lined. Baby sleeping bags are measured in TOG (Tog Rating). The higher the TOG number, the warmer the sleeping bag. The same applies to baby blankets.
The rule of thumb is:
Below 18°C: Padded sleeping bag with 2.5 – 3.0 TOG
From 18°C to 23°C: lightly lined sleeping bag with 1.0 TOG
From 24°C to 25°C: A light, unlined summer sleeping bag with 0.5 TOG is sufficient
Over 26°C: no additional sleeping bag necessary
At very high room temperatures, it is sufficient for the baby to sleep in a light shirt, short-sleeved bodysuit or just in a diaper.
Babies, like adults, are very different; every baby is different. Experiment to find out what your baby feels most comfortable in.
