And suddenly they're grown up - Moving out of the family bed
Moving out of the family bed
As your children grow, it's perfectly normal for them to express the desire to sleep in their own bed and move out of the family bed. While they still enjoy parental closeness, they're also becoming increasingly independent in their daily lives.
The timing can vary greatly from child to child. Some children, for example, want to sleep alone at 4-5 years old, while others only want to sleep when they start school or even longer. Pay attention to your child's needs here; there is no "right" or "wrong."
When your child is ready to sleep alone and wants to, you can simply continue using your Liegewiese family bed. With the help of a conversion kit from our shop, it becomes TWO beds: a single bed for the child and a double bed for the parents.
If your child still needs the close proximity, you can leave the single bed in the bedroom for now. Other children prefer to move straight into their own room. If you have multiple children, a sibling bed can also be a great solution.
Be an active participant in the transition! Cover the new sleeping area with your child's favorite bedding, place stuffed animals on the bed, and continue your bedtime routine. Give yourself and your children time and experiment with what works best for you.
Especially in the beginning, your children may come back to bed with you, for example, early in the morning after waking up. So, you don't have to completely forgo the familiar closeness of your children in the family bed. We wish you much success with the transition!
